Malta, 1 June 2011: This evening, the RMYC will be organising the briefing for the "IIG Round The Islands Race". Registration starts at 7.30pm whilst the briefing will start at 8pm at the Clubhouse. With an estimated course length of approximately 100 nautical miles, this is by no means an easy race. Depending on the wind conditions and strength, one could expect the fleet to spend most of Saturday rounding the Maltese archipelago and taking in the majestic sights of the steep cliffs and azure waters of Malta and its Islands.
The course will take sailors South towards Marsaxlokk, rounding the Island of Filfla, through the South Comino Channel, rounding the Island of Gozo and heading back down to Fifla and finishing at the RMYC.
The Race Committee have also included a double handed class besides the normal fully crewed class in this race which makes this event even more challenging for those wishing to endure a full day of racing with just 2 people on board. This is by far the longest local race we now have on the RMYC sailing calendar and we hope to build up on this with our inaugural IIG Bank Sponsorship this year.
The race will start from the waters opposite the RMYC this Saturday morning at 9am with the prize giving ceremony scheduled for the following Friday, 10th June in the evening when the RMYC will be organising a party night on the Club terraces for all RMYC members to attend.
